The course provides an introduction to the principles of general linguistics for beginners.
• In the Fall semester, there is an emphasis on theoretical linguistics (e.g., phonetics, phonology, morphology, and syntax).
• In the Winter semester, we will start from the study of meaning (i.e., semantics) and the diachronic analyses of language data (i.e., historical linguistics). And then the focus will be shifted to the aspect of language use (e.g., sociolinguistics, language acquisition, psycholinguistics, etc.).
